Bruce Wilson is a fine art photographer whose work reflects his broad interests in the beauty found in nature’s smaller landscapes and serendipitous encounters. These interests and the challenge of portraying them in an original manner balance the technical work that has made up the majority of his career as a mechanical engineer.

Wilson credits an undersubscribed photo review class as revealing to him some of the ways images could be made more cohesive and more interesting. Since that class, he has pursued his interests with vigor. In the summer of 2020 he showed 25 works from his “Urban Ponds” series at Harvard University’s Arnold Arboretum (online due to Covid). Recently he has exhibited in juried exhibitions sponsored by the Griffin Museum (third place award), Cambridge Art Association, and the New England School of Photography. In the summer of 2019 he showed 19 works from his “Fog and Flow” series at the Newton Free Library in Newton, MA, and received two honorable mention awards from the Newton Art Association. He has also shown his work in a solo show, “Musicians at Work and Intimate Landscapes from Portugal” at a large coffeehouse galley, a juried show at an art festival, a juried show at a community art gallery, and numerous group shows (juried and open) with the Newton Art Association.

He has participated in Newton Open Studios and helped create a one-day art fair with 10 artists. Next to his Little Free Library he has installed a Little Free Gallery that has a new exhibit (from artist friends) every month, which cheers up the neighbors. He has been an active volunteer with Newton Neighbors, an involved, Covid-prompted mutual-aid network started by four women in March 2020.
