Jocelyn Scheirer

My paintings are each part of a bigger whole. I begin every one with an open mind, curious about what it will reveal to me. As they develop, they present more and more structure, eventually leading to the strong marks and shadings that appear — some more obviously figurative than others. Together, they build a personal language of markings that repeat across canvases.
