My landscapes have always been celebrations of color, and my recent focus on encaustic paintings has enabled me to incorporate more depth and texture into my work. During the pandemic, I was drawn to encaustics because I found solace in the meditative processes of waiting for the wax to melt, slowly building up layer upon layer of paint, fusing the layers together with a blowtorch, and then carving into and scraping away differing layers. Encaustics is a very hands-on, tactile medium, and I love that the tools I use to create texture and patterns in my paintings are pottery tools, bringing me back full circle to my favorite childhood pastime of throwing pottery on a wheel.

You can read about my artistic journey during the pandemic in a feature in the Jan/Feb 2021 issue of Art New England titled Creativity and Catharsis: https://artnewengland.com/creativity-and-catharsis/ My art has also been written about in The Boston Globe, boston.com, Cultural Adventures 2021, Tourist & Town, and Maine Home + Design (which named me one of “five standout artists to keep your eye on.”) My art is in homes across the U.S. and Canada, as well as in Europe, Australia and Saudi Arabia, and is also in several corporate art collections, including Boston Children’s Hospital, East Boston Community Health Center, and American Tower Corporation.

I’d love to talk about my painting process, sources of inspiration, and the story behind individual paintings with you. I hope you get a chance to stop by and say hello during open studios!
