Painting is an important part of my life. It allows me an expressive voice. It is a continuing process of learning what I can do with paint and discovering what paint can do for me. I earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Boston Architectural College, followed by a career extending over 30 years. I hold membership in the American Institute of Architects and the Boston Society of Architects. I am a student and supporter of the New Art Center in Newton, Massachusetts. My art is an extension of my career. Initially I painted architectural subjects which evolved into experimenting with abstract design. My inspirations include Charles Sheeler, Robert Rauschenberg and Gerhard Richter, to name a few. My work is in acrylics, experimenting with a variety of application methods from brushes to credit cards, rags to squeegees. I have recently been repurposing some of my old paintings into abstract arrangements. I work and learn with several artists who teach and challenge me, and I owe gratitude to Pat Mattina and John Murray for their wisdom and friendship. I am a member of the Newton Artist Association and participate annually in Newton Open Studios. I live and work in Waltham, Massachusetts where I spend several hours most days in my studio. My art has become an integral part of me. With each painting I am pushing my technical skills further. The canvas becomes an emotional expression of feeling, almost spiritual.
