Sidney Hutter Glass & Light was formed in 1987 by glass artist Sidney Hutter. Hutter has over 40 years experience in creating hand crafted glass objects which demonstrate a unique intersection of art and technology. His refined process of cutting, polishing, and laminating plate glass using ultraviolet adhesive and specialty pigments make him a unique player in the glass art movement. From his studio in Newton, Massachusetts, Hutter creates tabletop sculptures, floor and wall constructions, as well as functional objects including candleholders and lighting.

Hutter uses a highly refined system of laminating clear plate glass using ultraviolet adhesive. The color in each piece comes from the adhesive that has been mixed with colored and/or special effect pigments. When viewed at different angles, each piece’s colors mix and separate with the changing light to create an ever-changing, three-dimensional “painting”. Individual sections of laminated glass circles or bars are often sent back through a cutting, grinding and polishing process before becoming permanently laminated into the final design.

Sidney Hutter’s work is on display in glass galleries throughout the United States and is included in numerous private, corporate, and museum collections including the Met (NYC), MFA (BOS), Museum of Art and Design (NYC), National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution (DC), and White House Craft Collection (DC).
