Fish printing or “Gyotaku” (Gyo= Fish) – (Taku = Rubbing) is the Japanese Art of painting real fish to preserve a true record of the size of the species. The process starts by painting a dead fish or octopus, placing paper directly on to it, then gently rubbing to produce a unique mono print. Most of my specimens are caught off the coast of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine and New Hampshire. Throughout this journey, I have documented many varieties which are now under strict fishing regulations.
