Barbara Newman

I paint on stretched canvas mostly using water based oils, but have also used acrylics and pastels. My paintings are representational- painting what I see in my own style. I am inspired by the natural world and enjoy painting landscapes of diverse locales-from Cape Cod to Vermont to the Greek Islands. I am particularly inspired by the many shades of green that exist and the challenge of recreating them. I also love capturing the ever changing clouds. I have also painted many still lifes, which offer an unchanging subject matter while allowing me to reveal more and more detail with light, shadows and reflections. I enjoy the challenge of capturing these details and creating their three dimensional qualities on a two dimensional canvas. I take classes at the Museum of Fine Arts and online with Joel Mitnick Studios.
