Fabric Origami Gift Boxes

As an admired fan of Tomoko Fuse for her origami designs on decorative boxes, I have been folding these boxes with selected fabrics for the past twenty years or so.
The boxes are folded in fabric and put together in unit origami methods with subtle or no gluing necessary. There is no cardboard box underneath. They are often two pieces, a lid and a base. They come in many different shapes such as triangles, pentagons, hexagons, and octagons, as well as typical squares and rectangles. Most origami boxes have designs on the lids but many have designs both inside and outside the lid and base.
The fabrics are 100% cotton and are pre-treated with a fabric stiffener that enables the fabric to retain folds and creases, and hold its shape. Once stiffened, they are cut into square sheets, ready for folding. Fabric selection is hand-picked and are not acquired in mass quantities. Most of the boxes are made a handful of times with the same fabric, and then “retired” to another fabric.
Each box is individually hand-folded. This is a one-person operation. The boxes are not mass produced.
