Elizabeth Carter

My work draws from the landscape of my childhood. It is a reaction to my experience in the natural world and reflects my concern for the environment. In my monotypes and monoprints I explore the tension between abstraction and representation, movement and stillness, flatness and depth. I use color to create moods that reference specific times of day and particular seasons. My mark making is energetic and calligraphic, responding to the wildness of nature.

I received my BFA from Mass Art and my MFA from the Museum School. I taught drawing in RISD’s pre-college program or 30 years.
