I have been creating and thinking about art for as far back as I can remember. Now that my children have grown, I am able to devote more time to the creative process. Drawing and color are my passions, which I employ in my paintings as a way of expressing my creative impulse and my interaction with the world as I see it. Dance is also one of my passions, so I employ line, color, white space, and spatial relationships to help the viewer’s eye dance around the canvas.
The flat, decorative surface treatment and bold color of my artwork evolved from my work with silkscreen printmaking in college and my subsequent work as a textile designer for Katja of Sweden and as a freelancer. I have also been heavily influenced by the Fauves and other early-20th century artists, as well as Alex Katz, Milton Avery, David Hockney and others. Expressionist still life is a major theme for me, but in recent years I have also gravitated towards more abstracted imagery, especially in my work with mixed media collage.
